Macroscopic dynamics of the isotropic-nematic transition in polymeric liquid crystals

Abstract
We present the macroscopic dynamics near the isotropic to nematic transition in liquid crystalline side chain polymers. We suggest experiments to observe the transient polymeric network via a qualitative change in the dynamic behaviour of the birefringence above the isotropic to nematic transition.
